Tips for a Better Night's Sleep
Small daily habits compound into lasting improvements. Our physicians recommend these evidence-based practices for better sleep health.
Keep a Consistent Schedule
Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day — even weekends. A consistent rhythm trains your body's internal clock for better, deeper sleep.
Limit Screen Time Before Bed
Blue light from phones, tablets, and TVs suppresses melatonin. Power down screens at least 60 minutes before bedtime to help your brain wind down.
Keep Your Room Cool & Dark
The ideal sleep temperature is 65–68°F. Darkness signals your brain to produce melatonin. Blackout curtains and a fan or white noise machine can help significantly.
Watch Caffeine & Alcohol
Caffeine has a half-life of 5–6 hours — avoid it after 2pm. While alcohol may feel sedating, it disrupts REM sleep and often causes middle-of-the-night wakeups.
Get Morning Sunlight
Natural light exposure within 30 minutes of waking anchors your circadian rhythm. Even 10 minutes outside on a cloudy day can make a meaningful difference.
Create a Wind-Down Ritual
A consistent pre-sleep routine — reading, light stretching, warm bath — signals your nervous system that it's time to rest. Consistency is key over time.
Practicing good sleep hygiene is helpful, but a sleep disorder requires professional evaluation.
